Syiah Kuala University (USK) students, Ahmad Zaki Marjan and Ziad Muhammad from FKIP English, and Aura Lativa from the Faculty of Engineering, joined the student exchange program to Taiwan, the New Southbound Policy Youth Elite Exchange Program (YEEP).

This student exchange program is organized by National Quemoy University which is subsidized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan, R.O.C.

“The plan is that these three USK students will be in Taiwan from September 2023 to January 2024,” said USK Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agussabti, M.Sc.

While in Taiwan, they will take part in various campus programs, including interacting and exchanging ideas with professors, partners and companies from various countries in Southeast Asia.

Apart from that, they also studied Mandarin for 12 hours per week for five months. After following strict selection stages from all over the world, finally the organizing committee selected the best students from various universities, including three from USK.

Previously, these three USK students had already made this campus proud with their achievements. For example, Ahmad Zaki Marjan is an Indonesian Tsunami Awareness Ambassador Delegate at the World Tsunami Awareness Day Event in Okinawa, Japan and one of the students taking part in the USK Teaching Program in Thailand in 2023.

“This is a very meaningful program to exchange ideas directly with best young generations from various countries,” said Zaki.

Ziad Muhammad is USK’s Favorite Reading Ambassador for 2022 and the 2021 Independent Domestic Student Exchange in Makassar. Aura Lativa is a student taking part in the EBA Fieldwork program in Kumamoto, Japan.

“Through this program we can broaden our insight into education, cultural diversity and open up opportunities for ourselves to be able to contribute to other students through sharing after we return back to Indonesia” said Aura.
