On Saturday, November 4 2023, the English Education Department held a workshop on the theme of public speaking. This workshop was attended by all 2022 and 2023 batch students as well as representatives of undergraduate study program students who are currently undergoing study programs in these two study programs.
The goal of public speaking training for success is to provide students with appropriate preparation for the thesis examination. This is one part of the English Education Department’s efforts to help students improve their public speaking abilities and prepare them for success on final exams.
The training with the theme “Public Speaking Training for Success” aims to equip students to appear confident and successful in facing the thesis exam.
Dr. Iskandar Abdul Samad, MA, Coordinator of MPBEN (Magister Program of English Department) FKIP USK in his speech explained the purpose of this training
“We want to help our students achieve success in their thesis exams. One of the important keys in a thesis exam is the ability to convey their ideas and research clearly and persuasively. “Therefore, this public speaking training is very relevant and useful for them,” he said.
This one-day training provides students with an understanding of the principles of public speaking, effective communication techniques, as well as direct practice in speaking in front of the class. They also get constructive feedback from resource persons and their peers which helps them improve their speaking skills.
Popon Zailian, Founder of More Edu, who was the resource person at this training, explained the types of presentations
“There are four types of presentations that we encounter in public speaking. “These four types are impromptu, manuscript, memoriter, and extempore,” said Popon.
Furthermore, Popon said that public speaking skills are very important because they can help students increase their self-confidence and be able to easily convey their thoughts and ideas effectively and efficiently.
This public speaking training event, facilitated by More Edu and Thesiscoach, includes theory and practice sessions with special material relevant to the introduction to the rhetoric of thesis exam presentations, such as the preliminary, opening, defense proper, in camera and closing segments. This public speaking training activity is an important step in supporting their students to achieve extraordinary achievements in their thesis examinations
It is hoped that students who take part in this training will be able to utilize their public speaking skills to impress supervisors and thesis examiners in order to achieve success in their thesis examinations. Through efforts like this, the English Education Department wants to show its commitment to providing quality education and preparing students to be successful in academic.
